Thomas Tuchel plans to sack coaches from his former team Chelsea as he assembles his new coaching staff in England.

The German was identified on Wednesday as Gareth Southgate’s permanent successor, signing an 18-month contract that will take him until the end of the 2026 World Cup.

Next to him, 38-year-old Anthony Barry, who has made rapid progress, helping Frank Lampard and Roberto Martínez, as well as Tuchel, was confirmed as England’s No.2.

Mail Sport understands that Tuchel will return to Stamford Bridge for one or two more members of his Three Lions squad, with goalkeeping coach Hilario and performance analysis manager James Melbourne also joining.

The FA have yet to make an official move to Chelsea for Hilario, but the Portuguese are believed to be on Tuchel’s radar.

Thomas Tuchel will begin his duties as England manager on January 1 after agreeing to become the new coach and manager of the Three Lions.

Anthony Barry (Tuchel’s left) has been confirmed as his number 2 in England, while Hilario (second from right) is on Germany’s radar.

The former stopper played 39 games for the Blues between 2006 and 2014 before returning as a coach in 2016 and working under various coaches at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Melbourne has been at Chelsea since 2005 and it is not yet known whether he will leave the Blues completely or work with the FA part-time.

Tuchel worked with the pair during his time at the club, during which he led the team to the Mistletoe of Champions in 2021.

The appointment of the 51-year-old manager ended weeks of speculation over the England manager’s position, following Southgate’s departure following the Euro 2024 final.

Lee Carsley filled the role on an interim basis, leading the team in four international matches, and will continue his tenure for the next Mistletoe of Nations games in November.

During Tuchel’s presentation on Wednesday, FA boss Mark Bullingham revealed that around 10 candidates had been interviewed for the role.

“The whole process was secret. That may have been difficult for the audience, but we have to keep that secret. Not only for us, but above all for the candidates,” he admitted.

‘I will say some things and stay that way. So we interviewed about ten people and we interviewed some English candidates in them. As for anything else, I wouldn’t expect him to reveal details.

Asked if any of them had rejected the FA’s advances, Bullingham said: “We made the process very clear. We talked to about 10 during the process.

“Clearly some were more prepared for the role than others. We are delighted to be ending up with Thomas and we believe he gives us the best chance to cash in on the World Cup. We believe that the best candidate got the job.
