Arsenal praised after bringing Thomas Partey at a “cheap” price. In fact, the Gunners invest more than IDR 1 trillion for the Ghanaian player.
In the last seconds before the closing of the summer transfer market, Arsenal redeemed Partey’s contract at Atletico Madrid which is worth 50 million euros or about Rp. 869 billion. Partey has conducted medical tests with Arsenal in Madrid and London.
Partey will join the North London squad after defending Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Given Partey’s quality as a box-to-box midfielder, it’s clear that the price is fairly cheap. Moreover, Arsenal do need Partey’s manpower in midfield.
Since Mesut Oezil was frozen, Arsenal have not had a midfielder who has a high cruising range and the ability to shoot from outside the penalty area. Partey has that attribute in his abilities as a midfielder.
But, according to The Athletic, Partey’s price is not as cheap as written in the media. Because, Arsenal not only paid 50 million euros for Partey’s contract clause, but also gave him a ‘wow’ salary. Partey previously was paid around 70 thousand euros per week by Atletico.
Arsenal reportedly gave a salary increase of up to 250 thousand euros per week, or around Rp. 4.3 billion! Of course that is a very significant increase, almost four times that. In addition, Arsenal also have to pay 2.5 million euros for other matters.
With a four-year contract including a year extension option, the total Partey will earn around 65 million euros or around Rp 1.13 trillion if it really survives according to its contract.
So Arsenal spent around 115 million euros or around Rp 1.7 trillion for Partey while at the Emirates Stadium. Of course, Partey will have to pay for his performance on the pitch.
