Trained at the USAP but faithful since 2012 to Colomiers, the left pillar Thomas Dubois is a sure bet in the Pro D2. Before the trip to Aimé-Giral’s lawn tomorrow (8 p.m.), he delivers his analysis.
In what state of mind are you approaching this match?
We are working well, we are preparing this match as seriously as possible because we know that we will be expected.
You played again Friday in Montauban (17-33). How do you judge this recovery?
It feels good already and I think everyone is in the same situation. It had been five months since we had any contact. The friendly matches are going to do their job well this year. The most complicated thing is all the protocols that are put in place. It’s mandatory but it pollutes a little the normal resumption of rugby.
The first against the second of the stopped Pro D2. Do you give a symbolism to this match against USAP?
The importance will be placed on the league matches. There, clearly, it’s a friendly match. Even if there is of course this desire to show that we were the best. But we know how the friendlies go, we are on a scoresheet that makes 33 or 35 players, these are membership reviews. It is especially good for working and learning.
“The objective: to be in the top six”
You were living an exceptional season which did not come to an end. Have you completely moved on?
It is an engine, we will use it but we must not be mistaken. We must not forget that of course, last season was exceptional, but the one before was catastrophic (Colomiers had barely escaped). We rectified things well and of course we were all frustrated, like Perpignan, when we learned that the Top 14 was blocked, that we would not have our final stages, that everything we have been fighting for since August had gone up in smoke. So it is true that there is frustration. We moved on to something else because unfortunately for the first Pro D2, all the counters are reset to zero.
What is the club’s goal this season?
We set ourselves the same as last year: to be in the top six. We want to confirm what happened last year, to show that it was not a fluke but above all the result of hard work and questioning.
