Defeat Persija Jakarta from Persita Tangerang make Thomas Doll annoyed. He made the defeat prove that his team needed an additional striker.
Persija lost 0-1 to host Persita in Week 4 of League 1 2023/2024, Saturday (23/7/2023). Esal Sahrul’s goal in the 81st minute was the only goal scored in the match at the Indomilk Arena, Tangerang.
In that match, Persija lacked strikers because Marko Simic was injured in the warm-up session before the two teams clashed. As a result, Simic, who was on the starter list, had to be replaced by a local striker, namely Aji Kusuma.
Losing Simic left a hole for Persija. The Croatian player previously contributed two Persija goals in a 4-1 win over Bhayangkara Presisis Indonesia in the League 1 match the previous week.
Meanwhile, Aji Kusuma’s quality and experience are incomparable to Simic’s. Meanwhile, Thomas Doll had prepared a player who was supposed to be Simic’s companion/substitute, but Persija ultimately decided not to recruit him.
Persija is the only League 1 club that does not fill foreign player slots. Of the six available slots, Persija only has five foreign players, namely Ondrej Kudela, Ryo Matsumura, Marko Simic, Maciej Gajos and Oliver Bias.
One slot left in Persian that should be filled by the coveted striker Thomas Doll. But at the closing of the transfer market on July 20, Persija did not register additional foreign players to fill the remaining slots.
“We lost a striker against Persita. So, I have to say this very clearly. That’s why I’m waiting for someone to come to accompany Marko Simic,” said Thomas Doll after Persija was defeated by Persita.
“But it didn’t happen. So this is the situation now. I’m not happy. But we need to keep looking forward,” he added.
Previously, Persija President Mohamad Prapanca had spoken about his team’s failure to fill foreign player slots. After the transfer market closed, Prapanca made an official statement on the club’s website.
He apologized to The Jakmania who were disappointed because the last foreign player they had been waiting for had not been introduced. The last foreign player who is said to be filling in the remaining import player slot is Jiri Scalak who comes from the Czech Republic.
“Simic was injured. So we lost him. That’s why I spoke last week about another striker. But he didn’t come. It’s not my fault,” said Thomas Doll.
“I don’t know if five foreign players are enough. But, President Persian already spoke. I think he gave some comments. Of course we also talk about other strikers, but the situation is as stated by the President. This is the situation,” said the former Borussia Dortmund coach.
