Thomas Brail, environmental activist mobilized against the Toulouse-Castres highway, on hunger strike since the beginning of September and who began a thirst strike on Monday, was hospitalized Tuesday morning in Paris, we learned from one of his relatives.
“He was already weakened by his hunger strike (since September 1, Editor’s note), and during the night, he lost consciousness, a doctor examined him and the Samu transferred him to Cochin hospital,” declared Vincent Allirol, also committed against the A69 construction site, which must be put into service in 2025 in Tarn.
“He still refuses to hydrate and be hydrated at the hospital and he continues to demand the suspension of work,” he added.
A meeting planned for Friday with elected officials
Thomas Brail and two other activists announced that they were starting “a thirst strike” during a press conference held early Monday afternoon near the Ministry of Ecological Transition in Paris.
The Occitanie prefecture announced on Tuesday that it had scheduled a meeting on Friday “with the mayors and elected officials of the region”. Until then, specifies the prefecture, “major clearing operations will not take place”.
For Transport Minister Clément Beaune, “this break should allow for calm before Friday’s meeting”.
