In an interview with the Norwegian Dagbladet, AIK’s new sporting director Thomas Berntsen tells how he experiences the situation in black and yellow.
The Norwegian started his new job in May and the months that have passed since then have been difficult for AIK. Right now, the team is in a qualifying spot in the Allsvenskan.
– It’s rock hard. Both us and the supporters expect something completely different from what we have shown this season. The commitment around the club is absolutely incredible, says Berntsen to Dagbladet.
The sporting director also opens up something about the process that led to AIK recently firing head coach Andreas Brännström, in order to bring in the meritorious Norwegian Henning Berg.
For example, Berntsen comments on information from Aftonbladet that he had a “secret” meeting with Berg before an agreement was reached between the parties.
– Huh. I don’t know how secret the meeting was. We met at home in my apartment in Oslo. It wasn’t that damn secret. I had gotten food poisoning during a trip, so it was easiest to take it at my house, he says.
Berntsen is also clear that it was difficult to part ways with Brännström.
– It’s nice to have Henning ready, at the same time it was too damned to have to end the collaboration with Andreas Brännström. That’s the worst part of the job.
