Even though the iPod has become a relic, a YouTuber managed to fix a compatibility issue by creating a custom interface for playing music from Spotify on iPod Classic hers.
The iPod Classic has become a legend for its massive storage, as big as a conventional PC hard drive which allows users to store tons of songs, podcasts, and music videos without compressing them. Even though iPods are no longer in use, many people are trying to sell them on platform buying and selling online, such as eBay. However, the archaic interface and limitations for syncing files still disappoint users.
New iPod Classic streaming device
A YouTuber known as Guy Dupont has used some Do It Yourself (DIY) magic to turn his iPod Classic into a Spotify-only streaming device. iPod Classic doesn’t run the standard iPod interface, but a custom interface.
Reported Slash Gear, Thursday (23/6/2022), Dupont replaced the monochrome screen with color and opted for a dark theme with text written in green to match Spotify’s aesthetic. This method is not intended for beginners and requires sufficient technical knowledge.
iPod Classic is equipped with a Raspberry Pi Zero W module that provides Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. Raspberry Pi is used to run a custom interface. Although Dupond opted to keep the 3.5mm headphone jack, it didn’t work. Additionally, Apple’s traditional 30-pin docking adapter has also been replaced with a micro-USB port for easy charging.
He made sure the buttons on the front, including the click wheel, were working as intended. Overall, this ambitious and inspiring project is something to be excited about for iPod Classic fans.
