This year’s first hurricane is ravaging the Caribbean

Schools, businesses and airports in the eastern Caribbean are closed pending storm surges and landslides.

Heavy rainfall and strong winds hit the island nation of Barbados on Friday, and Category 1 hurricane Elsa is now on its way to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, which are still struggling to recover after a recent volcanic eruption.

Sustained wind speeds of over 33 meters per second have been measured, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami in the USA.
