Riga, April 9, LETA. This year, the theme “Freedom” has been chosen for the Valmiera Summer Theater Festival, Lija Lauze, the representative of the festival organizers, informed LETA.
The Valmiera Summer Theater Festival will take place for four days this year, from August 4 to August 7, as well as several works of the festival will experience guest performances outside Valmiera. The organizers will offer the audience nine productions, six of which will be new works, starting with performances for children and ending with performances of contemporary art, opera and movements, and three – performances popular with previous years and also winning the “Players’ Night” awards. The festival program and tickets are scheduled to be announced in May.
The festival will focus on freedom of thought, emphasizing the importance of freedom and thought, but not only in this difficult time, when Russia commits war crimes in Ukraine every day, when what is happening in the information space divides society, and the opportunity to express oneself freely and be free. , says Lauze.
Freedom of thought in the context of performances will be seen as an opportunity to be independent in one’s thoughts and actions and to unleash one’s creative potential. Reinis Sukhanov, the festival’s director, emphasizes that people live in a time when a nation can follow online as a nation unites to fight for freedom and decide its future. “People are in a situation where there is a clear need for freedom,” Suhanov said.
One of the biggest events of the festival will be a large-format concert on the Valmiera stage with the participation of the brass band “Rīga” and several hundred choirs, which will update the “alternative and non-commercial” genre music created 20-30 years ago. Arrangements by six contemporary musicians, such as “Pest of a Child”, will be performed by six contemporary composers, such as “Pest of a Child”. Street “,” Trobels “,” Non Skid “,” Childhood Militia “and many others.
This year, several productions of the festival will also go on tour in Latvia, offering spectators two works created during the festival. The new work “Hamoka Komūna” directed by Sabīne Ozoliņa will visit the municipalities of Valmiera region in May and June, but the performance “Football is a Moment” after the festival will also be available in Riga, Liepāja and Gulbene.
The Valmiera Summer Theater Festival is being organized by the Valmiera Theater in cooperation with the municipality and supporters for the seventh year.
