This year, only 3 cases of Covid-19 were reported in the Ungheni district

In Ungheni district, in the first two weeks of 2023, 346 acute viral respiratory infections were registered. According to Sergiu Talmaci, an epidemiologist at the Public Health Center Directorate, in the first week (January 2 – 8) of this year, 167 cases of acute viral respiratory infections were registered, and in the second week (9 – January 15), the number of acute viral respiratory infections increased to 179 cases, and 70% of cases of acute viral respiratory infections were registered among children. At the same time, at the beginning of 2023, a case of influenza was also registered, confirmed through the laboratory of type AH1N1.

Influenza virus A(H1N1), is a subtype of influenza virus that is transmitted to humans. This virus contains genes from swine, avian and human influenza viruses in a new combination, called “swine” flu.

Symptoms in human influenza A(H1N1) are similar to the symptoms of seasonal human influenza. A specific peculiarity of the new type influenza virus A(H1N1) is the possibility to affect the lower respiratory tract as well (uncharacteristic for other types of human influenza viruses) and to cause severe pneumonia in children and young people.

Sergiu Talmaci says that the flu vaccine stocks were exhausted as early as December. “There were 7,600 vaccine doses that were received for the Ungheni district, and at the moment, there are no flu vaccine doses in any Center of Family Doctors in the district,” he said.

Regarding the infection with Covid-19, in January of this year, only three cases were reported.
