This year, Ķekava municipality has granted real estate tax relief in the amount of more than 100,000 euros

In the first nine months of this year, Ķekava municipality has granted real estate tax (RET) relief in the amount of more than 100,000 euros. Almost 40% of the total amount of benefits or 38,000 euros is allocated to large families of the county.

According to Vineta Vītoliņa, Head of Public Relations of Ķekava Municipality, this year the total amount of R & D relief granted by Ķekava Municipality has reached 101,401 euros. Large families have been granted a RPL discount of 38,009 euros, easing the tax burden for 377 families in Ķekava region. The second largest group of persons who have received significant REN discounts this year are pensioners who have reached the age of 65 – 479 persons have received benefits in the total amount of 11,864 euros. The participants of the 1991 barricades and the liquidators of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident, as well as persons with a group 1 or 2 disability have received relief of almost 10 thousand euros.

Every year, the municipality grants RPL discounts to several groups of persons, significantly reducing the amount payable in taxes. Since 2019, the groups of persons who can receive R & D benefits have been expanded, as well as the amount of tax benefits has been increased, says V.Vītoliņa.

Real estate discounts of 90% apply to:

  • for non-working single pensioners, for whom the pension does not exceed the amount of the minimum monthly salary specified in the state;
  • natural and legal persons regarding the measures taken in the previous year to restrict the spread of hogweed;
  • for natural and legal persons regarding building land or a part thereof, if in accordance with the territorial plans of Ķekava district the building land is located in a territory for which the functional zoning of traffic infrastructure objects for construction or further research territories has been determined;
  • natural and legal persons for whom functional zoning has been determined in the spatial plan for construction and these lands cross trunk overhead power transmission lines (applying relief to the part of the land affected by the territory of the communication protection zones);
  • persons who have been granted the status of a needy person;
  • for local government capital companies which have been established to ensure the performance of local government functions – regarding buildings in which economic activity takes place.

Real estate discounts of 50% apply to:

  • for low-income persons or families for the period in which the taxpayer complies with the status of a low-income person;
  • Participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident and persons with the status of a participant in the 1991 barricades;
  • persons who have been recognized as persons with group 1 and 2 disabilities by a decision of the medical commission;
  • a natural person who has a common declared place of residence with a disabled child, with a disabled person of groups 1 and 2, who is a child, grandchild, brother, sister, spouse, parent or grandparent of this person or his or her spouse;
  • pensioners who have reached the age of 65 on 1 January of the taxation year (relief for housing tax);
  • merchants who have acquired the status of a social enterprise in accordance with the Social Enterprise Law.

The exemptions also apply to multi-apartment residential houses, where energy efficiency improvement or facade renovation works have been carried out without municipal funding, to the owners of residential houses, if the building has been granted a Passive House Certificate, as well as to other categories. In turn, a 25% discount will be granted to economic operators for buildings where economic activity is performed, V.Vītoliņa reports.
