Initially, Nickie was diligent in sunbathing twice a week with a duration of 8-12 minutes a day. But suddenly a small bald lump appeared in the middle of his hair.

“I made an appointment with my GP, and was told I have a small cyst that is nothing to worry about, and can remain untreated safely.” The SunFriday (29/7/2022).
“But over the next two years, it continued to grow slowly. Eventually it became the size of a coin,” he continued.
After friends and family urged her to have her condition checked, doctors finally found that Nickie had been suffering from basal cell carcinoma (BCC). This is a non-melanoma skin cancer condition.
Doctors eventually removed the cancerous lump and skin around his head. This operation made the surface of Nickie’s head appear perforated and had to undergo a skin graft to cover it.
“After that, I felt like there was a pretty big hole in my head,” Nickie said.
“But luckily that’s good news, when the tissue was checked, it was finally clear of cancer.”
Reported from Mayo ClinicBasal cell carcinoma (BBC) is a skin cancer that often appears as a slightly transparent lump on the skin, although it can take different forms. Basal cell carcinoma most often occurs in areas of the skin that are exposed to the sun, such as the head and neck.
Most basal cell carcinomas are thought to be caused by long-term exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sunlight. Avoiding the sun and using sunscreen can help protect against this condition.
