Medellín will be filled with energy this Sunday, September 29, with a new edition of the Carrera de Las Rosas, an event created in 2016 by the AlmaRosa Foundation with the aim of saving lives through campaigns that promote the early detection of breast cancer.

This year, in addition to the distances of 2K, 5K, 10K, 15K and the 21K Half Marathon, Agua Cielo, the leading brand of Grupo AJE, will present its #CarreraSinHuella initiative in the capital of Antioquia, turning the competition into a benchmark for sustainability and female empowerment.

Throughout the route in the Park of Lights, runners will join in the change, depositing their bottles at the points set up for this purpose.

Each point will have the presence of professional recyclers attached to different associations in the city who will be in charge of making use of the material so that later through the material transformation cycle they will be converted into new Agua Cielo containers, closing the cycle. responsibly.

This year, the power of recycling will be in the hands of the women recyclers of the Medellín district, who will be in charge of collecting and sorting plastic bottles during the race.

“The Rose Race is much more than a sporting competition; It is an opportunity to demonstrate that every step can lead us towards a cleaner future. With #CarreraSinHuella, recycling becomes a joint action where recycling mothers have a leading role,” explained Armando Russi, Sustainability and Communications Manager of Grupo AJE in Colombia.

Agua Cielo has already demonstrated its commitment to sustainability in different parts of the world. With initiatives such as the transformation of solid waste in Machu Picchu and the alliance with the Galapagos Conservancy Foundation in Ecuador, Grupo AJE is leading the implementation of the circular economy globally. In Colombia, this effort has resulted in the collection of more than 2.5 tons of plastic at events such as “Corre mi Tierra” and the “Ibagué Musical Half Marathon.”

In the Rose Race in Medellín, each bottle deposited will become a new container of Agua Cielo, thanks to the commitment of the runners and the tireless work of the District’s recyclers, 35% of the recyclers are women, many of them mothers who are heads of household.

“With #CarreraSinHuella, we want to give them the prominence they deserve, while we promote the circular economy,” added Russi.

The Environment Secretariat of the Mayor’s Office of Medellín also plays a crucial articulating role, supporting the initiative and promoting the Great District Alliance for the Circular Economy. This collaboration seeks to consolidate the city as a world leader in responsible environmental practices.

Sport is our best ally to bring this message of sustainability to every corner. It is not just about running a race, but about running towards a future where every bottle is transformed, where every step counts,” Russi highlighted.

With the Rose Race, Agua Cielo and Grupo AJE not only contribute to the protection of the environment, but also to social development, by including waste pickers in this collective effort.
