At the main station and at Marienhof, where two underground S-Bahn stations are being built at a depth of around 40 meters, the excavation work is going deeper step by step, Deutsche Bahn announced on Monday.

In addition, the remaining remains of the reception building and adjacent parts of the building at the main station will be demolished and the so-called MAN roof above the transverse platform will be dismantled.

In the next few years, a new entrance building, an underground stop for the second trunk route and a shell for the planned U9 station will be built at the main station. In addition, the DB is building a new building for the Starnberg wing station.

By the end of February, the DB travel center will move to the southern exit on Bayerstraße due to ongoing construction work. DB Information will also move there in 2023.

DB continues to work on the tunnel portal at the Donnersberger Bridge. Where the tunnel boring machines will later start from the west, DB finishes the excavation work, followed by the construction of the first tunnel blocks using the cut-and-cover method.

Laim – Structure #2 to be completed

A completely renovated barrier-free station will be built at Laim station over the course of the construction period. This is where the first and second main routes will meet in the future – it will be possible to change trains on the same platform.

From the spring of 2023, an important milestone will be reached. Then the new track 1 including a newly built platform edge will go into operation. The S-Bahn trains going out of town will then stop at the newly constructed platform. After the tied arch bridge at Hirschgarten, a second structure of the 2nd trunk line will be completed.

Ost/Ostbahnhof section

Further detailed planning and coordination with the project partners and the Federal Railway Authority are underway for the changed route of the 2nd trunk line in the east and the new tunnel station on Friedensstraße. The official planning approval procedure for the section is currently taking place, and the building permit is expected at the end of 2023.

In the eastern section, work is underway on the new electronic signal box at Ostbahnhof. After an extensive test phase, it will gradually replace the previous relay signal box that controls the S-Bahn traffic in Munich.
