What if our level of bullshit actually depended on our passions…

Are some of our passions making us dumber than we already are? The answer is yes, according to a Hungarian study published in the journal BMC Psychology, which suggests that there’s nothing more mind-numbing than looking a little too closely at the news of our celebrity friends. But according to the researchers behind this research, there is “a direct association between celebrity worship and poorer performance on cognitive tests”.
What is the most mind-numbing passion?
In order to come to such a conclusion, the scientists asked 1763 adults to answer a vocabulary test about thirty words. They were then subjected to a numeric symbol substitution test and finally had to fill a “Celebrity Attitude Scale” questionnaire, to determine their level of interest in the stars. Race results? People with the highest level of interest in people also scored lower on cognitive ability tests.

And do not think that we are trying at all costs to reassure ourselves, it is even the authors of this study who say so: “Our research does not prove that developing a powerful obsession with your favorite celebrity leads to lower cognitive test scores”.
