This week the CEM meets with Sheinbaum, Gálvez and Álvarez Máynez

Mexico City. In the context of the 116th Plenary Assembly of the Conference of the Mexican Episcopate (CEM), tomorrow the presidential candidates, Claudia Sheinbaum, of the Sigamos Making History coalition and Xóchitl Gálvez, of Fuerza y Corazón por México, will meet with the bishops and on Thursday It will be the turn of the Citizen Movement candidate, Jorge Alvarez Máynez.

This will be the second time that the applicant will meet with the Catholic clergy, since last March 11 at the Tlatelolco University Cultural Center the three signed the Commitment for Peace, although Sheinbaum did so expressing his disagreement with some of the aspects of the religious evaluation of the reality of the country.

On this occasion the meeting with the Catholic hierarchs will be private, and the bishops will ask a series of questions, particularly regarding security and religious freedom.

The first to visit Casa Lago, in Cuautitlán Izcalli, will be the standard bearer of the Let’s Keep Making History coalition and Gálvez will later do so. The dialogue is expected to last approximately one hour with each candidate.

More than a hundred bishops from all over the country are gathered in the Plenary Assembly. In each electoral process, the cardinals invite the presidential candidates to discuss their government projects.
In a video message prior to the meeting, the bishop of Cuernavaca and general secretary of the CEM, Ramón Castro, indicated that the attendance of the candidate was confirmed.
