Last week, Latvia was in third place, but a week ago, Latvia had the highest incidence of Covid-19 in the EU.
ECDC estimates of the situation in the previous two weeks from 14 to 27 June show that the cumulative morbidity per 100,000 population in Latvia has decreased to 61.86 cases. Until the beginning of this week, the 14-day infection rate was higher than in Latvia in Cyprus, Portugal, Spain and Ireland, where the situation has recently deteriorated.
The highest incidence rate is currently in Cyprus at 179.6 cases per 100,000 population, and the lowest in Romania at 4.6 cases per 100,000 population.
In Estonia, the infection rate per 100,000 population has dropped to 33.5 cases in the last two weeks, and in Lithuania to 28.1 cases, according to ECDC data.
In Latvia, the 14-day mortality rate diagnosed with Covid-19 has almost halved and at the end of the previous week it was 24.6 cases per one million inhabitants. However, in other countries the mortality rate has decreased faster and in this indicator Latvia is in the 2nd place among the EU and EEA countries with the highest mortality for the third week in a row.
The highest mortality with diagnosed Covid-19 per million population in the past two weeks has been in Romania alone. The corresponding figure is 11.8 in Lithuania and 2.3 in Estonia.
Also, for the third week in a row, Latvia has been in the orange zone of the travel warning cards created by ECDC. The other two Baltic states are also located in this area.
Only Cyprus, Portugal and about half of the Spanish regions are currently in the red zone. In total, about half of Europe’s territory is in the green zone, where the incidence of Covid-19 is low.
The travel alert card is designed to make it easier for travelers to understand the level of infection in different parts of Europe. In addition to the green, orange and red areas, there is a dark red area where no region in Europe is currently located.
It has already been reported that 71 new cases of Covid-19 infection were detected in Latvia last day and reports of seven deaths with Covid-19 were received, according to the information of the Center for Disease Prevention and Control.
The two-week cumulative rate of Covid-19 per 100,000 population has dropped to 50.5. During the last 14 days, 956 cases of Covid-19 infection have been detected in Latvia.
The total number of patients in 14 days was less than one thousand on October 10 last year, when 994 infected people were diagnosed.
To date, a total of 137,500 people have contracted Covid-19 in Latvia, but 2,520 have died from this disease.
