This Wednesday, October 2, union organizations of Necochea call for a national strike and mobilization in defense of public education. The rally will begin at 2 p.m. at the UNICEN university headquarters, followed by activities from 3 p.m. in front of the municipality and a march at 5 p.m. that will begin in Plaza Dardo Rocha, where improvements will be demanded in the educational budget and the restitution of essential funds.

The conveners, which include SUTEBA, ATE, ATUNCPBA, ADUNCE, CTA, CTA Autónoma, SOEME, UDOCBA, the Student Front, FUCBA and UNICEN, maintain that the national government “You cannot ignore public education.” Since the inauguration of Javier Milei, demands for national partnerships, funds for school cafeterias and infrastructure have intensified. “The government’s response is an unprecedented adjustment and definancing in more than four decades of democracy,” they stated.

Among the slogans are the defense of the educational budget, the rejection of the veto of the University Financing Law and the restitution of the FONID. In addition, they will demonstrate against the retirement reforms and in favor of a new educational financing law.

The march will be in support of the national call organized by the Trade Union Front, the Argentine University Federation and the National Interuniversity Council, and it is expected to be more massive than the first. The organizations hope that this mobilization, which has the support of the CGT, the two CTA and several political parties, is a clear message of social discontent regarding the government’s adjustment policies.
