Staff shortages are forcing Lufthansa and Eurowings to cancel hundreds of flights. Which flights are cancelled? All information at a glance.
Cologne – Lufthansa is still suffering from the corona pandemic. Because during the two years of the pandemic, the airline lost numerous workers. The shortage of staff is now having a clear impact on air traffic: Lufthansa has canceled 900 flights. There are also hundreds of failures at the company’s subsidiary Eurowings, as the company reports.
Lufthansa: Which flights are cancelled?
According to the announcement, the cancellations affect Lufthansa flights within Germany and Europe, especially at the hubs in Frankfurt and Munich. In addition, the cancellations are limited to flights on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, i.e. about five percent of capacity on weekends. Only July is currently affected by the cancellations due to staff shortages.
Lufthansa: What do travelers need to know?
Travelers whose flights fall victim to the cancellations will be “informed immediately” and “rebooked to other Lufthansa or Eurowings flights as far as possible,” Lufthansa said when asked. For flights within Germany, passengers could alternatively “arrive at the airports by train.” This change is possible up to 48 hours before the actual departure.

Lufthansa and Eurowings are canceling flights: is my flight cancelled?
Lufthansa regularly promises to inform those affected by email or telephone. Nevertheless, the website states that travelers are on the Lufthansa website can inform if they “have not received any message from Lufthansa”. This is possible via the booking code, the Lufthansa iD or Miles&More.
Lufthansa also points out the flight plan and flight status online to check. This can be done either via the route, the flight number or the respective airport. Flights from Cologne/Bonn Airport: Lufthansa and Eurowings
Eurowings offers flights to 82 destinations from Cologne/Bonn Airport. Including domestic German connections, for example to Munich or Berlin. In addition, destinations in France, Greece and Croatia are served. Lufthansa flies from Cologne/Bonn to Munich.
Lufthansa and Eurowings aircraft also take off from Düsseldorf Airport. “The Düsseldorf Airport hub is the most important decentralized Lufthansa location in Germany,” writes the airline on its website. From Terminal A of Düsseldorf Airport, Lufthansa flies to Frankfurt and Munich within Germany, as well as to cities in the DACH countries such as Vienna, Zurich and Graz. Of course, the same applies vice versa: machines also arrive in Düsseldorf from these airports.
Airports in NRW: How Lufthansa and Eurowings fly from Dortmund, Münster and Paderborn
Eurowings flies to destinations in Germany and Europe from Dortmund Airport. Most of them go to Munich and Palma de Mallorca. You can also reach destinations in Spain, Italy, Greece and Croatia with Eurowings from Dortmund. Lufthansa does not offer any connections from Dortmund.
There are also scheduled flights from Münster Airport that may be affected by the cancellations in July. Lufthansa flies from Munster to its Munich and Frankfurt hubs, Eurowings flies to Palma de Mallorca.
There are Lufthansa flights to Munich from Paderborn-Lippstadt Airport.
Further Lufthansa and Eurowings flights from Frankfurt and Munich
Flights to other cities could also be affected by Lufthansa’s cancellations. Lufthansa flies from Frankfurt and Munich airports outside of North Rhine-Westphalia to Hamburg, Bremen, Leipzig, Dresden, Berlin, Hanover and Stuttgart. The airline also offers regular flights between Stuttgart and Frankfurt.
Subsidiary Eurowings flies from Hamburg to Munich and back in addition to the main airport Cologne/Bonn.
Lack of staff at airports leads to long waiting times
The lack of staff is also evident at the airports themselves. To ensure that flight operations run as smoothly as possible, the airports are asking for the help of passengers.
