On Tuesday, August 13, Tim Burton and the cast of Beetlejuice 2 arrived in Mexico City to promote one of the most anticipated sequels. The acclaimed filmmaker met with the press at the Four Seasons Hotel located on Paseo de la Reforma Avenue.

Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci, Michael Keaton, Justin Theroux and Burton posed in an impressive set that evoked the ornaments worthy of a trajinera. Two characters dressed as the living dead also participated in the dynamic. During the press conference, the artist talked about part of his experience in making the second installment of his acclaimed horror comedy.

“I didn’t look at it nostalgically, I looked at it as a character that I enjoyed, in a world that I enjoyed and it never left me. Obviously it took me like 35 years to do it again, but it was something that I finally felt after all this time and seeing how people grow and move on… Like Lydia’s character from teenager to adult, that’s a journey that we all take.”

“So the idea was to make it like a weird family movie, which felt really right. For me it wasn’t nostalgic, I thought of it more as a weird family, weird family movie,” Tim said.

For her part, Jenna Ortega, who plays Lydia Deetz’s daughter, expressed her feelings about joining Beetlejuice. “I feel very grateful to be a part of this because I feel that this is what young people need today. We want to keep the theaters alive, we want young people to see it. It’s for everyone.”

On Wednesday the 14th, the film director has a very busy schedule, as he will present a master class for his fans, as well as the red carpet and fan event at the Toreo Parque Central plaza, located in Naucalpan de Juárez, Edomex. Days prior to the event, the shopping center was decorated with an afterlife setting with the colors and characters of the Beetlejuice universe.

Lucky Tim Burton fans will have the chance to see the actors, enjoy a 20-minute preview of the film and just a few minutes of meeting the main characters.

Since its release in 1988, Beetlejuice has become a classic of horror-fantasy comedy cinema, directed by Tim Burton. The plot revolves around a couple who recently died and remain as ghosts trapped in their own house for 125 years. So they turn to an extravagant “bio-exorcist” to scare away the new living inhabitants who arrived at their home. At that time the cast included Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones, Catherine O’Hara, Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton, who plays the main character.

The fascinating thing about the film is that it manages to combine the elements of horror and comedy in total balance. Burton created, through this masterpiece, a unique vision of the afterlife and the problems that ghosts face when trying to coexist with the living.

It was in this film that Tim Burton truly found his distinctive style, full of imagination, gothic aesthetics and eccentric characters.
