16 years after one of the most remembered videos in Mexican politics among public officials was released, this Monday a new recording was added, which circulates through the YouTube platform, in which officials are observed, linked to senators, receiving wads of bills.
On this occasion, one of those involved in this controversy is Guillermo Gutierrez Badillo, who worked in the Senate and is currently the private secretary of the Governor of Querétaro, Francisco Domínguez. Also appears Rafael Caraveo, former technical secretary of the Senate.
Given this fact, we remember those moments in which the officials closest to the then head of Government received large amounts of money, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

“The video scandals and the plot”
In March 2004 he started a political war through “video scandals.” The protagonists were Andrés Manuel López Obrador, then head of Government, and a group made up of the former head of government, Rosario Robles, and the Argentine businessman, Carlos Ahumada.
The “plot”, which López Obrador accused, began when Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas, the first head of Government, left office to compete in the presidential elections, at that time, Rosario Robles he remained in command of the Federal District.
During that time, around 2003, Robles met Carlos Ahumada, an Argentine businessman with whom the capital government did some business.
Ahumada owned the Quartz Group, to which the newspaper belonged “The Independent“He also bought the León and Santos first division soccer teams.

Ahumada became a key piece in that year, when in the first days of March, Televisa, through the programs of Joaquín López-Dóriga and “El Mañanero” from “Brozo”, broadcast videos showing Gustavo Ponce, López Obrador’s finance secretary, and René Bejarano, the head of government’s political operator.
On March 1, 2004, the video in which Gustavo Ponce saw himself betting on Las Vegas, in the exclusive casino “Bellagio”.
The scandal and criticism against the López Obrador government official did not finish when two days later, “Brozo” presented the “video scandal” that to date is the most remembered.

In the images it appeared René Bejarano, the man of all the trusts of the then head of Government, who controlled the networks of the PRD in Mexico City, along with his wife, Dolores Padierna. Both were deputies, delegates and officials of all kinds.

Bejarano became the private secretary and main operator of Lopez Obrador, which from the first moment of his government, pointed out its differences with the federal government, headed by Vicente Fox.
Ahumada and Robles contacted Bejarano, to whom the Argentine businessman gave large amounts of money in exchange for continuing the political favors that the Ahumada company had in the then Federal District.
The images became a great scandal because “Brozo” presented them on his program, at the hands of the PAN member Federico Döring, and in the presence of Bejarano, who did not know what to say when he saw the video.
The media nicknamed Bejarano “The lord of the leagues” because in the video he took the money even with the leagues of the bundles. At that time, it was not known that who he was giving the money to was Ahumada, it was later that said character was learned.
When López Obrador was questioned about Bejarano’s actions, the head of the Government said that it was a “plot” of the “power mafia”, as he assured, for several years, that many people did not want him to become President. which he won 14 years later, in 2018.
The Capital Attorney’s Office investigated Bejarano’s video and revealed that businessman Carlos Ahumada was the one who gave him the money. From that moment on, both Bejarano and Ahumada were investigated and were subsequently imprisoned.
“The Green Child”
The former president of Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM) and former senator, Jorge Emilio González Martínez, better known as the “Green Child”, joins the list of controversies.
In 2004 he was linked to acts of corruption, after a video recording was published between him and an intermediary of a group of investors in which he accepted an offer for 2 million dollars for the creation of hotels within the tourist corridor of Cancun.
For this reason, it began to be investigated on March 4 of that year by the then PGR; However, in October he was acquitted of the crimes because it was considered that there was no proof of the crimes derived from the video in which he was implicated.
