The anti-terrorist operation that the Civil Guard deployed yesterday in the Lagunillas area, in Malaga capital, with an extensive device that alerted the neighbors, it continues to leave striking images that show the scope of the action. A video disseminated through social networks captures the moment in which almost a ten officers from the elite unit of the Rapid Action Group (GAR) race out of a van and head towards two men, who end up reduced to the ground. The investigation is now focused on determining if both are related to other recently arrested linked to a jihadist terrorism cell.
The arrests of the two individuals, one of Moroccan nationality and another from Melilla, were practiced yesterday in the Plaza de la Esperanza of the aforementioned neighborhood by order of the Central Court of Instruction number 2 of the National Court.
The troops were deployed in the main entrances to Lagunillas Street and Victoria Street, which were cordoned off, although the latter was open to traffic and clear of guards at 15:30.
GAR armored vans and other vehicles stormed shortly after 2:00 p.m. in the neighborhood from the Plaza de la Merced and the Jardin de los Monos to progress little by little to the objective, supposedly a building in ruins and in which days ago some neighbors had observed that there were movements of people inside.
Once the arrests were over, the agents introduced into their vehicles several boxes of the material that was in the area, presumably computers and documentation. Shortly before 5:00 p.m. the device was loosening the pressure and releasing some streets to the traffic of neighbors. The Lagunillas street, what had been totally blocked, it was cleared around 5:00 p.m. to traffic and pedestrian traffic, but the device continued until late in the afternoon.
As reported yesterday by the string Ser, the two detainees had been residing in Malaga for several months and the Police have searched the homes in which they resided, although the operation was concentrated in the ruined building in Lagunillas, where they presumably were hiding from the forces of order.
The operation has generated much uncertainty and curiosity in Lagunillas. From early in the afternoon, dozens of neighbors were stationed in front of the police operation. The building where the arrests took place is well known by the neighbors for being a place where they usually sneak squatters with different motivations, from having a place to sleep to doing drugs. Last year it suffered a fire that scared the neighbors a lot because of its possible spread.
