This video proves that good 3D graphics are pure art

Have you ever dealt with 3D modeling in Blender, 3ds Max, Maya and Co.? I do, which is why I have been very impressed with a ten minute video over the past few days. Because anyone who knows how complex the conception and creation of even the smallest scenes can be with the aforementioned tools will flap their ears at what is shown. But don’t worry – the little movie is still worth seeing, even if you just want to enjoy the good graphics!

Soren Diedrich

Hardware editor Sören’s first steps in 3D modeling: just create low-poly grass in Blender, then use it for his little mini-jump and run in Unreal Engine 3. Much blood, sweat and tears later , stared proudly at the strange weeds that swayed gently in the wind in the Unreal Editor. Today everything is a little faster for him, but he can only dream of creations like this 3D contest!

100 artists create something very special

What exactly is it? I have a certain YouTube channel for a long time pwnisher undersigned. No, this is not a Fortnite streamer, but a person dedicated to short films and visual effects design, hosting a 3D art competition once a year, each time with a different theme.

That was all this year Moving mediation, which should already make it clear that what is shown now does not exactly feature many actions. However it doesn’t matter! What inspires me so much are the countless details, the physical effects, the quality of many assets, even small ones, and above all the inventiveness of the 100 people who were involved in the realization of this beautiful work:

How was the video made? All attendees received a template from the organizer, that is, a template that specified a basic scene and then some rules. As you can see in the video, the character is always in the center of the action and the camera perspective remains basically the same. Beyond that, however, there were no limits to the artists’ creativity.

3600 people participated, the best 100 proposals were immortalized. Incidentally, Lu Junchang, who has worked as a stuntman in films such as Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings or Bullet Train, is responsible for the motion capture in the video.

My personal highlights: As is known, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (minute 0:43) can be watched in any situation, but in this case because of the wonderful lighting of the scene. Neight_Lazy’s submission (1:21 minute) leaves me breathless in terms of the level of detail. The show around the Groot-like tree creature at 1:33 is just beautiful. And those were only the first two of over ten minutes!

GameStar prone readers may already know: I’m thrilled! If you feel the same way and want to read more about my travels to alien worlds, I recommend my practical tests of impressive tech demos:
