This ‘Ugly Duck’ barely drove 39 kilometers in 29 years | Car

On the French auction site Aguttes is a Citroën 2 CV for sale that would have traveled only 39 kilometers in 40 years. That was exactly the distance between the local Citroën dealer and the house of the first owner.

Well, not quite exactly, because that was a ride of 30 kilometers. The other nine kilometers were according to the auction site already on the counter when the man bought the car. They are likely the result of driving between the different stations in the factory and a short test drive that all new cars at the time were subjected to before going to the customer, according to the description accompanying the auction.

Distinguished by its very chic finish and its black and red color scheme, the Citroën 2CV 6 Charleston debuted in 1980 at the Paris Motor Show. At that time, the plan was to make a limited series of the Charleston of only 8000 copies, but the success was so great that Citroën decided to include this new model in the catalog as standard.

Blanket

In 1981, Mr H. from Maine-et-Loire, France, ordered the Citroën with special rims. He bought the car and drove it to his home the following year, the site said. He then parked the car next to his Citroën DS – also known as Snoek – and put a blanket over it. There the car was found 29 years later in completely original condition.

Even the tires have never been re-inflated, according to the auction house. To keep the magic alive, the auction house has not restarted the engine or touched the brake, leaving the car in the same condition as the day it left the dealership in 1982.

According to an estimate by the auction house, the Ugly Duck will fetch between 30,000 and 55,000 euros. It is not clear why the car is now being auctioned, nor why Mr. H. has never driven it.
