VIVA – Diabetes Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder that occurs due to an increase in blood sugar levels above normal values that takes place chronically. This is due to a disturbance in the hormone insulin produced by the pancreas gland.
Insulin works to regulate the use of glucose by muscle, fat or other cells in the body. If insulin production is reduced, it will cause high blood sugar levels and disorders of carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism.
Often this disease is considered a disease that often affects adults. However, in fact this disease can also occur in children and adolescents. Diabetes is divided into two types, namely type 1 and type 2. Pediatrician, Dr. Muhammad Faizi, Sp.A (K) explained, diabetes mellitus The most common type of diabetes in children is type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Type 1 diabetes occurs when the pancreas cannot produce enough insulin for the body. Insulin is needed by the body to control glucose (sugar) in cells that is obtained from the blood. Faizi explained, type one diabetes is generally asymptomatic.
“Type 1 without symptoms or coma, because awareness less,” he said at the IDAI virtual conference in commemoration of World Diabetes Day, Saturday, November 13, 2021.
Meanwhile, type two diabetes is a condition when blood sugar levels exceed normal values, because the body does not use the hormone insulin normally.
