Mar del Plata had a record of coronavirus infections this Thursday: the official party confirmed that sand they detected 31 new cases so the city reached 107 infected since the start of the pandemic.
One data generates strong concern in the health authorities: in the nine days of July alone, 58 cases were detected. That is, more than half since compulsory isolation began on March 20.
The focus of the contagion outbreak was concentrated in the Namasté nursing home and the Houssay Hospital: 17 people were registered in the home today and in hospital 14.
In the nursing home, the new infected are six workers and eleven residents, while in the Juan B. Justo avenue establishment there are five close contacts, two patients and seven health workers.
Currently, with today’s 31 cases, there are 60 active patients with the disease in the General Pueyerredon party.
AT THE HOUSSAY HOSPITAL
A total of 33 cases were recorded in the hospital since the pandemic began. In addition to today’s 14, yesterday they had been detected eleven infected among workers and relatives of patients. Six are women 67, 46, 42, 37, 29 and 48 years old, health workers: one is in isolation in a hotel and 5 remain at home. In addition, they were infected a 67-year-old patient and three positive case contacts: two men aged 47 and 44 in isolation at the hotel and a 72-year-old man in hospitalization. The last positive case of the Houssay on Wednesday was a security worker who is in home isolation.
In the hospital, four cases had also been detected in recent days: on Monday three women of 67, 68 and 85 years old and a man of 74 tested positive. Meanwhile, the contagion of a 31-year-old maid was confirmed on Tuesday.
Before these infections, three other cases had occurred in this hospital: a 32-year-old traumatologist (May 22); an employee of a private security agency (July 1) and the aforementioned nurse (July 2).
IN THE GERIATRIC
Since the outbreak began in the nursing home, five other cases had been detected, so far there are 22 infected. The first was registered on July 6 when a 74-year-old woman who was admitted to the 25 de Mayo clinic was infected. A day later, the positive of a 34-year-old administrative employee was confirmed and three other infections were officially confirmed yesterday: a 94-year-old woman who is hospitalized at the Hospital Interzonal de Agudos, a 35-year-old administrative employee and a 42-year-old man.
THE LINK TO THE POLICE
The Secretary of Health, Viviana Bernabei, assured that they are investigating a possible link between the outbreak of the virus registered in the home with the case of the policeman from Balcarce, who was working in El Boquerón and tested positive on July 2. That same case could also be the origin of the contagion to the union worker of La Bancaria, which yesterday was one of the four confirmed cases of the day.
“We are looking for the epidemiological link. We have to test a person who works in the home and who has been isolated for four or five days because he is a contact of a person who worked with the Balcarce police. There is a link there, but until we test this person we cannot establish if that is the link or not, “said the secretary.
