The use of household cleaning products has increased widely, especially since the start of the Corona virus, but this matter presents some life-threatening health risks.

From detergents to cleaning sprays, Breast Cancer UK experts warn that some household products may contain artificial ingredients known as endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDC), which have been linked to breast cancer.
Christina Hawkes, founder of Greenscents, elaborates on this connection more broadly, stating: “Household cleaning products are traditionally made with strong synthetic ingredients, which means they contain many chemicals that alter the endocrine system (EDC). They are usually synthetic chemicals. It is found in a variety of products, including plastics, pesticides, cosmetics, food, detergents, toys, clothing, paints, medical equipment, cleaning products, furniture and fixtures, and electronics. “
While Breast Cancer UK has linked breast cancer only to these potent chemicals, research published in Reviews in Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders has also linked endocrine disrupting chemicals to uterine cancer, along with prostate cancer and to the thyroid.
“EDCs have been linked to hormone-sensitive cancers, such as breast, uterus, prostate and thyroid,” Hawkes explained.
After reviewing several studies, the experts concluded that while “the level and timing of exposure are critical”, the public should be made aware of the presence of EDC in common consumer products.
Fiona Osgon, Senior Director of Health Information at Cancer Research UK, said: “People can be reassured that, looking at the evidence in general, the use of cleaning products in the home does not increase the risk of cancer. They exist. strict safety regulations in place in the UK. The US and the European Union on what ingredients they can be used in. Manufacturers must make sure their products are safe to use before selling them. “
Hawks notes that the most reliable way to ensure our safety is to “choose cleaning products that do not contain endocrine disrupting chemicals whenever possible because we know they pose a cancer risk.”
And if you want to stick with your usual cleaning supplies, another expert tip is to make sure there is enough ventilation while doing housework.
“Avoid cleaning with products inside. Be careful when using a nebulizer as the droplets can easily travel and be inhaled. However, the best approach is to look for household products and laundry products approved by recognized organizations.”
