This latest study was published in Egyptian Journal of the Liver involving 100 cirrhotic patients. During the study, participants underwent GERD symptom assessment using the ultrasound stomach and endoscopy.
Of the 100 patients, 83 people suffer from GERD. The research team also found that the severity of GERD was significantly related to the severity of the patient’s cirrhosis.
Several studies have also found an association between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and GERD symptoms. According to this study, patients with early stage nonalcoholic fatty liver disease may experience several symptoms of GERD, such as: stomach ache and regurgitation or back up the mixture of undigested food with gastric juices in the esophagus up to the mouth.
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is the accumulation of excess fat in the liver that is triggered by things other than alcohol consumption. Most of the triggers of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease are obesity.
