Former Indian batsman Ajay Jadeja has issued a warning to Australia as the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi is set to host the second match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series between India and Australia. India defeated the Aussies, the world number one in Tests, by an innings and 132 runs in the first Test at Nagpur. The first Test saw Australia failing to deal with spin and the Indian pacers with the new ball.
Jadeja warned Australia in an interview with Cricbus before the second Test. Jadeja pointed out that this is the ground where Anil Kumble took 10 wickets in his innings. “It is expected that only a slight bounce will be obtained from the pitch. If there is some grass, wicket batting will not be difficult. Anil Kumble took 10 wickets against Pakistan in Delhi. Spinners will definitely get help here,” said Jadeja.
Kumble’s amazing performance was on February 7, 1999. It was the first time in cricket history since England’s Jim Laker in 1956 that a bowler took all 10 wickets of the opposition in a single innings. The stadium was then known as Feroz Shah Kotla. Kumble, who took four wickets for 75 runs in the first innings against Pakistan, conceded 74 runs and took 10 wickets in the second innings.
