However, currently a new hepatitis has emerged with no known cause, so it is referred to as mysterious hepatitis. The Ministry of Health also asked the public to be more vigilant.
This started when the World Health Organization (WHO) declared an Extraordinary Event (KLB) in cases of Acute Hepatitis of Unknown Etiology that had attacked children in Europe, America and Asia since April 15, 2022.
Previously, three pediatric patients who were treated at Dr. Ciptomangunkusumo (RSCM) Jakarta with the suspected disease died. The three deaths occurred at different times, spanning the last two weeks to April 31, 2022.
In terms of recent types of hepatitis, some children have acute liver failure and a small number, of whom require liver transplantation.
Generally, hepatitis is caused by viral infections, excessive alcohol consumption, use of certain drugs, autoimmune diseases, and liver fluke infections. However, until now, the exact cause of the mysterious hepatitis is not known.
British health authorities estimate that adenovirus infection was a factor in the mysterious hepatitis outbreak.
Because of all cases in the UK, half of the total confirmed cases are positive for adenovirus and the other half are positive for mysterious hepatitis.
In fact, of the 169 cases detected by WHO, 74 of them were infected with adenovirus.
“Adenoviruses are a common family of viruses that usually cause a variety of mild illnesses and most people recover without complications,” the UK Health Safety Board (UKHSA) said in a statement. EuroNewsWednesday (4/4/2022).
However, there is a possibility that they are infected with a new type of adenovirus so that the symptoms are quite severe. However, WHO has not been able to provide clarity regarding this mysterious hepatitis outbreak.
