The “Thousand Bicycle Racks for Kolbermoor” project is intended to sustainably promote cycling in the city. Since last summer, a total of seven new bike racks have been installed at various locations to better meet the needs of cyclists.
Kolbermoor – Whether people like to use private means of transport depends not least on the parking options. This applies to bicycles as well as to cars: If there are no parking spaces available and the vehicle would have to be “parked” on house walls or trees, which is actually not allowed, then that is problematic. Such circumstances are among the small but significant factors that discourage many people from cycling.
Seven additional parking options
It is therefore logical that the city’s mobility management starts here to make life easier for Kolbermoor cyclists. The work started last summer at the Adolf Rasp School, and seven more parking options have now been added. These were set up in places where there was a lot of need, for example in front of shops and cafés, and where the required land was already owned by the city.

Kolbermoor’s maypole has disappeared – why is that and when a new one will come
Veronika Winkler, the city’s mobility manager, emphasizes that care was taken to install practical bicycle racks. These are designed so that the rims are not damaged if a bicycle should tip over, and they offer the possibility of connecting the frame and possibly an additional wheel with a U-lock in a theft-proof manner – without contortions and “fiddling”. This also applies to children’s bikes. In terms of convenience, care was taken to ensure that the stands can be reached by bike without having to get off and push first.

Sized for everyday use
The space for the individual bicycles is suitable for everyday use. There is also enough space on the new bike racks to park cargo bikes or bikes with trailers.
The best news for all cyclists: This is not a one-off event. Rather, stands will be set up again and again in the future until cycling in Kolbermoor can no longer fail due to inconvenience when parking. It is not for nothing that this mobility management project is called “A thousand bicycle racks for Kolbermoor”.
