Each partner has a different tempo when having sex. Some of them may prefer to play ‘rough’ with their partners. In fact, it’s not uncommon for some of them to explore unusual sex positions. But remember, couples need to be careful when having sex. The wrong position of the penis can cause it to break.
Quoted from the Mayo Clinic, a broken penis is different from fractures in other bodies because the penis has no bones. During an erection, the penis enlarges with blood filling the two cylinders (corpora cavernosa). If the enlarged penis is bent suddenly or forcefully, this can damage the outer covering of one or both of the cylinders (tunica albuginea). This is what can cause a broken penis.
Penile fractures most commonly occur during sexual intercourse, such as when the penis slips out of the vagina and is accidentally pushed into the pelvis. However, penile fractures can also occur due to the following:
- Excessive bending of the penis during intercourse
- A sharp blow to the erect penis during a fall or accident
- Rolling over in bed with an erect penis
- Masturbation
Symptoms of a Broken Penis
A broken penis is a painful injury. The following are red flags that may indicate a broken penis
- A bang or explosion is heard
- Sudden loss of erection
- Severe pain after an injury or accident
- Dark bruising over the injured area
- Crooked penis
- Blood leaking from the penis
- Difficulty urinating
Risk Factors
Although penile fractures can result from injury during any position in sexual intercourse, there are certain positions that can increase the risk of breaking the penis. The position in question is ‘women on top’.
When the penis is momentarily blocked at the entrance to the vagina, the weight of the woman’s body can forcibly bend the erection. Penile fractures can also occur when a woman sways too far forward or backward, bending the shaft of the penis.
Immediately see a doctor if you feel the penis is broken. If left untreated, fractures can permanently damage the penis. A broken penis can also cause erectile difficulties.
