Sex is often associated with the same activity as when we exercise. Having sex is called the equivalent of light to moderate exercise.

Even so, you need to know the exact number of calories that can be burned by sex depending on your body weight, the length of sex, and other factors your partners have. This is similar to measuring calorie expenditure for physical activity, there is no one-size-fits-all answer.
How many calories are burned during sex?
A 2013 study from a small study compared the calorie burn of healthy young couples who spent 25 minutes having sex versus running on a treadmill for 30 minutes.
The results showed the men burned an average of 101 calories during sex, or about 4.2 calories burned per minute. Meanwhile, women burn an average of 69 calories during sex, or about 3.2 per minute.
Sex burned far fewer calories than when the same participants exercised on the treadmill. When they exercised, men burned 9.2 calories per minute and women burned 7.1 calories per minute. That means more than double the sex.
Another study in the same year concluded the same thing. A 30-year-old man can only burn 21 calories during intercourse if he has six minutes of sex. This time is the average duration when having sex.
Indiana University School of Public Health sexual and reproductive health professor Debby Herbenick, PhD, said there are several sex positions that can help couples expend more calories. She called the “wheelbarrow” position one of the recommended sex styles because it’s similar to cardio exercise.
