This sentence works wonders

There are sentences that are real all-purpose weapons. This is worth gold (whether in marketing or raising children)

There is one phrase that works wonders for my children. He can turn stubborn, aggressive mini-monsters into tame, cooperative offspring. I claim it works eight out of ten times.

The sentence is: “I can understand that well.”

“I can well understand that you don’t feel like running home. It’s been a long day. I am tired, too. Look, we’ll be there soon. “

“I can understand why you want an ice cream. But this also tastes delicious. We’ll buy another one soon. “

“I can well understand that you want to go to kindergarten in your Spiderman costume. That looks really cool. Today we have to wear something warmer. “

I am always amazed at how well it works. If I were to put down her wish (“There is no ice cream, you already had chocolate today”), it would lead to the escalation. If, on the other hand, I express their need and acknowledge it, then that creates a connection between us.

To be understood is a wonderful feeling

And I believe that it’s not just children like this: we all like it when someone sees and can understand how we feel, what we want, what we don’t feel like doing, what we despair of. Why am I telling you this? Because “show understanding” is an incredibly effective way of communicating with customers in marketing too.

A supermarket delivery service could text, for example:

“Are you too tired after work to carry heavy bags home? Full understanding. We’ll bring your purchases to your front door. “

A financial advisor could write:

“Do you find it difficult to keep track of your finances? Investment is really not your favorite topic? It doesn’t have to. I take care. “

An interior designer could write:

“You want a stylish home, but you don’t feel like spending your Saturdays in the furniture store? I can understand that.”

I also regularly show my newsletter readers and those interested in courses: “Hey, it’s totally understandable that you find it difficult to write marketing texts. After all, nobody has ever shown you how to do it! “
