JAKARTA, Kabarbisnis.com: The Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine has recently become a public conversation. The reason is the Indonesian Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, has added the vaccine to the routine immunization program in Indonesia.
Vaccination to prevent cervical cancer will be mandatory for girls in grades 5 and 6 of elementary school. Moreover, according to Budi, the highest maternal mortality rate in Indonesia due to cancer is breast and cervical cancer. This is the reason the vaccine is included in the government’s routine immunization program.
The Minister of Health hopes that early prevention can reduce maternal mortality due to cervical cancer in Indonesia.
The program will be implemented in the School Child Immunization Month (BIAS) activity in August 2022.
Launching the Healthy Negeriku page of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Monday (25/4/2022), this year the HPV vaccine will be given in 131 districts/cities in 8 provinces. Consists of 4 provinces in Java Island and 4 provinces outside Java (DKI Jakarta Province, DI Yogyakarta, Central Java, East Java, North Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Gorontalo, and Bali).
Then, in 2023, it is hoped that the free HPV vaccine program has been injected to citizens who need it throughout Indonesia.
According to the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) dr. Siti Nadia, the provision of the HPV vaccine has actually been carried out since 2016, but it has not been comprehensive.
