This online course combines fashion, curation and exhibitions by Frida Kahlo

Mexico – The museum of the Fashion Institute of Technology (The Museum at FIT) in New York will offer an online program specialized in curating Frida Kahlo.

Called, “Curating Frida Kahlo: Fashion & Prosthetics” – Curando a Frida Kahlo: Moda y Prosthesis – the program will be offered on the institution’s YouTube channel for free on Tuesday, March 11. Although the content will be prerecorded, the premiere that will be held at 6 pm, Eastern time, will have the question and answer function enabled to interact live with the presenter.

The workshop will be led by Circe Henestrosa, director of the School of Fashion at LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore. She will lead a discussion on how exhibit spaces can create a new visual language that addresses issues such as a person’s disabilities differently. According to the expert, artistic exhibitions make it possible to give visibility to this type of problem that generally falls within the space of the invisible. Within this video, Henestrosa Justo will speak with Tanya Melendez-Escalante, senior curator of education and public programs at MFIT, about the division that exists between “us” and “them” when it comes to people with disabilities.

Circe Henestrosa has a long career working with exhibitions by Frida Kahlo. Among her collaborations on the subject, she curated the exhibition Las Appearances Deceive: Frida Kahlo Dresses at the Frida Kahlo Museum in Mexico. He also co-curated the Frida Kahlo Making Her Self Up exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
