In a preliminary study presented at the annual congress of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) held September 9-13 in Paris, researchers presented promising results of a new form of treatment for patients with non-metastatic colon cancer.

Almost 112 patients affected of a colorectal cancer participated in the study. The latter were treated for four weeks with two immunotherapy treatments: nivolumab (Opdivo), a drug that stimulates the immune system to attack cancer cells, then ipilimumab (Yervoy), a monoclonal antibody. Then the participants underwent surgery six weeks after receiving the treatments. The results of the study showed that treatment with Opdivo followed by Yervoy for four weeks was associated with a reduction cancer above 95%.
