In 2023, WhatsApp finally gets a new feature that we’ve been waiting for a long time: picture-in-picture support! This lets you open and use other apps during a video call. The conversation then appears in a small frame on the screen, while you go through it all iphone scrolls.
New feature of WhatsApp 2023: picture-in-picture
Earlier this month, the picture-in-picture feature was spotted by attentive WhatsApp beta testers. Now Meta – the parent company of Facebook and WhatsApp – has announced it itself, via an article on theirs website. He says they are currently testing the new feature and that WhatsApp hopes to roll it out in 2023.
Picture-in-picture support is something WhatsApp users have been waiting for for a long time. Though it’s somewhat surprising that it took so long, especially since the app has two billion users and apps like FaceTime have had the feature for much longer. So it remains a guess as to why it took so long.
Whatsapp in 2022
In the same article, WhatsApp also goes over all the features introduced last year. How many do you already know? There are quite a few:
- Conversations with 32 participants: On your smartphone, you can now make video or audio calls with up to 32 people, four times as many as before.
- Send a single message or mute someone in a group conversation: When you long press someone in a group conversation, it will be zoomed. You can then mute this participant or send them a single message while the conversation continues.
- Send a link to a group conversation: Whether you’re planning a last-minute conversation or thinking ahead, you can easily invite someone to a group conversation by sending a link.
- Colorful waves: Quickly identify who is talking when no camera is in use.
- Notifications– Get notified as soon as someone joins a group conversation.
Other new features
