As he writes VarietyDavid O. Russell’s crime comedy Amsterdam, starring Margot Robbie, Christian Bale, Anya Taylor-Joy, Taylor Swift and Robert De Niro, failed at the US box office.
The film premiered on September 27. But on opening weekend, the comedy only grossed $ 6.5 million on an $ 80 million budget.
At the same time, reviews from critics are also negative – on the site Rotten tomatoes the film only received 33% positive reviews.
According to the plot, the action of “Amsterdam” takes place in the 30s of the twentieth century. The story centers on friends who accidentally witness a murder and become prime suspects.
