All duped parents will receive at least 30,000 euros, the cabinet announced at the end of last year. So far, 18,000 victims have been identified, 470 of which were transferred last month. Van Huffelen expects to pay 500 to 1000 parents on February 17, and 1500 to 2000 on February 25.
In March and April there will be four more payment moments: March 9, March 24, April 12 and April 22. Every victim who reports before February 15, must in principle have the money in their account before May 1.
Van Huffelen can no longer directly mean for ex-partners. The 30,000 euros is paid per household, but that can cause problems after, for example, a divorce. The State Secretary believes that ex-partners should be informed in advance that they are also entitled to part of the money, but it would now be too much work to do. As a result, it might not be possible to pay everyone before 1 May. She calls on parents to jointly distribute the money.
The State Secretary assumes that people also receive money without being entitled to it. According to current samples, that number could be as much as 10 percent of the total payouts. Van Huffelen accepts this risk, because she thinks it is more important to help as many parents as possible quickly than to prevent unlawful payments completely.
Quite a few invalid applications have also been submitted. One fifth of the applications were unjustified, for example because the applicant did not receive childcare allowance before or even has no children at all. If it is not immediately clear whether parents are entitled to 30,000 euros, they will be contacted and further investigation will be conducted. If it turns out that the 30,000 euros is justified, it will be paid out as soon as possible, Van Huffelen writes.
