John Hollis (54) has very special blood – only he didn’t know it until recently. Last spring, his roommate contracted the coronavirus and is seriously ill in his room. And Hollis believes: Now the corona virus is catching him too, he is ready for anything.
–
Dying begins all around him, and so the American holed up in his bedroom, even wrote a letter to his teenage son, a suicide note, so that he could still get something from him. “If it had gone downhill very quickly,” Hollis told NBC News. But the days go by, after a month the roommate has survived the worst. And Hollis stays healthy, only has a light head cold. Did the virus spare him?

“Enables us to find new ways to combat Covid”
On the contrary: Hollis was already infected and unknowingly infected his roommate. But the virus cannot harm himself. His blood is too strong, he has developed super antibodies. This is discovered in a clinical study at the George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. The doctor Lance Liotta did this and examined the Hollins’ blood.
–
Corona, it seems, cannot harm Hollis. Its blood is enriched with antibodies that are so strong that the blood can neutralize the virus, diluted 10,000 times. Liotta is enthusiastic: “With John we have completely new scientific possibilities. Learning about its antibodies enables us to find new ways to fight Covid. ”

Antibodies are effective against six corona variants
According to NBC News, Liotta and his team are now trying to better understand Hollis’ antibodies in order to mass-produce them. Every two weeks he now gives samples of his blood and saliva so that the course can be examined.
–
And study leader Liotta says that Hollis’ super antibodies not only remain stable, but have also been tested to be effective in combating six different corona variants. This differs from the other seven super-antibody samples that Liotta’s team found in the same study in other participants: These disappeared from their bodies after two to three months. With Hollis, however, they were still detectable nine months after he was infected.
–
By the way: even though he’s immune, John Hollis is still wearing a mask. However, he says, he now feels a lot safer shopping or cutting his hair. (neo)
