Jakarta –
A man from California, United States, named Ken Wilson, did not know that he had been paying his neighbor’s electricity bill incorrectly for 18 years. This problem was only discovered after an investigation by the local electric company.
Launching from The KeeperSaturday (9/21/2024), at first Ken Wilson, who lives in unit number 90 of an apartment in Vacaville, felt that the electricity bill he received was very expensive and unreasonable. Because he often tries to save electricity usage at home.
“I’ve been trying to save electricity to reduce costs because electricity bills are getting more expensive,” Wilson told local TV station KMAX/KOVR as quoted by The Guardian.

Feeling that something was wrong, he finally complained about his bill to the local electric company, PG&E. He thought there might be a problem with his apartment unit’s electricity meter or that someone was stealing his electricity.
“I thought there was a leak or someone was stealing my electricity or the meter was broken because something went wrong,” Wilson said.
In response to the complaint, the company sent a technician to investigate. However, since that investigation, PG&E found that the meter used by Wilson was connected to unit number 91 in his building, not his own apartment.
Records show that this situation has been going on since at least 2009. This means that he has been paying the neighbors electricity bills for 15 years unknowingly. .
“The meter number for the customer’s apartment has been transferred to another apartment since probably 2009,” PG&E explained while apologizing in a statement.
But Wilson told KMAX/KOVR that he moved into the apartment in 2006 and didn’t change or tamper with the electric meter. Because of this, he believes that he is likely to be paying his neighbor’s electricity bills for 18 years.
“I just hope this story helps other people. I can’t be the only person who has experienced this,” he said.
But, for now PG&E says Wilson still has to pay its neighbors’ bills. Because the bill can only be changed in the next billing cycle.
