Malaysia will face a tough test when they meet Vietnam in the continuation of the 2020 AFF Cup Group B phase, Sunday 12 December 2021. Ahead of the match, Safawi commented on the remaining matches against his rivals.
The player who can play as a center forward and winger believes that Vietnam and Indonesia have the same level as Laos. Therefore, he reminded his teammates to stay calm and not be affected by pressure.
“For me, any team, including Vietnam, Indonesia and Laos is the same. We can do something, get good results as long as we follow the coach’s instructions,” said Safawi, quoted by Stadium Astro, Friday (10/12/2021).
“I don’t focus on individual abilities. We focus on team spirit. The formation is good, I hope my team-mates can follow,” he continued.
Furthermore, Safawi said that he was focusing on the big match against the defending champion Vietnam. According to him, any strong team can be defeated as long as he and his colleagues adhere to the direction of the coach.
“I don’t focus on the individual. I have to focus on preparing for the next two days to face Vietnam,” he concluded.
Currently, Malaysia is still at the top of the Group B standings with six points, the result of sweeping two consecutive wins. Indonesia and Vietnam, which both have three points, have one match in savings.
