This Is Why Esemka Cars Are Still Imported from China

Jakarta

Esemka Bima EV has made its debut at the 2023 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS). PT Solo Manufaktur Kreasi (SMK) has also opened a booking faucet for consumers who are attracted to Esemka Bima EV.

PT SMK brought Esemka Bima EV to introduce it to the domestic public. The Esemka Bima EV, which appeared at IIMS 2023, was imported directly from China in full, aka Completely Build Up (CBU). Not without reason, the President Director of PT SMK Eddy Wirajaya revealed that his party had indeed formed a partner with the Chinese manufacturer.

“Speaking of business partners, we are looking for a potential partner who can make us in terms of mutual commitment. Whatever partner joins us later, our local brand is part of the collaboration,” said Eddy.

The electric-powered minivan is apparently still a rebadge of the Shineray X30LEV model. However, there are some differences between Esemka and Shineray X30LEV.

Seen by detikOto on Shineray’s official website, Esemka Bima EV is very similar to Shineray X30LEV. There Shineray also offers minivans in the form of Cargo Van and Passenger Van.

The difference lies in the shape of the grill and the color. If the Shineray X30LEV has a vertical grille with a shiny chrome color, then the Esemka has a horizontal front grille. The color of the Esemka front grille is also glossy black. Furthermore, in terms of seat configuration, if the Shineray X30LEV only contains a maximum of 7 seats, the Esemka can accommodate up to 11 seats. There are four seat configuration options offered by Esemka, namely 5, 7, 9 and 11.

Another difference is in the tire size. The Shineray X30LEV tire size is 175/70 R14C, while the Esemka is 175/65 R14C. As for the other specifications are not much different. For example, both batteries have a capacity of 49.1 kWh with a range of up to 300 km.

Eddy further explained, his party is still opening opportunities for anyone who wants to establish partners with PT SMK. Apart from that, the Esemka Bima EV is also planned to be localized and produced together with Bima 1.3 at the Boyolali area factory. Even if it is produced domestically, the Esemka car will use many components made in Indonesia.

“If it’s possible, why does it have to be 50% (TKDN), but it takes time to process,” added Eddy.
