The installation of a traffic island on Jalan Karya Wisata, Medan Johor has sparked protests from residents. Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution revealed the reason for installing the road median.
Reported detikSumatra, Monday (19/12/2022) Bobby revealed that the reason was due to low awareness of MSME players at the venue. He hopes that all parties can be responsible for maintaining order.
“There is a lot of people’s economic activities there, but there is minimal awareness to maintain traffic order,” Bobby said on Sunday (12/18/2022).
President Joko Widodo’s son-in-law (Jokowi) requested that MSME actors no longer sell by the roadside. Because he can interfere with motorists because he eats up the road.
“So, we hope that by making this reservation we can understand what our responsibility is and follow the existing rules. Don’t sell by the roadside in the middle of the road,” he said.
“The community knows how our efforts support MSMEs of Medan City. However, if their businesses occupy the street, this is not justified. Also, one of the residential complexes there, the entrance also occupies half of the street, thus reducing the number of roads. Through the relevant OPD, I warned him to reprimand him. If we don’t follow up, we will dismantle it,” he continued.
