– At just after 1 p.m. the men’s peloton will start the 112th edition of the Scheldeprijs from Terneuzen.
– Among the men we see several attack attempts early in the race. Ultimately, a leading group of five riders is formed, with Liam Slock, Tord Gudmestad, Mirko Bozzola, Bram Dissel and Peder Dahl Strand.
– At 188 kilometers from the finish, two riders from Intermarché-Wanty crash: shadow favorite Gerben Thijssen and the equally fast Arne Marit. Both riders hit the brakes early.
– While Gerben Thijssen has to give up, a split occurs in the peloton. Fans create even more chaos.
– After almost fifty minutes of racing, the first 43 kilometers are already behind us. This means an average of almost fifty kilometers per hour. Talk about a fast start.
– The platoon has been split up due to the fan violence. Soudal Quick-Step is well represented in the first group. The chasing group includes Sam Welsford from BORA-hansgrohe.
– After the very windy passage in Zeeland, peace returns to the peloton. It gives the released riders the opportunity to return from the background.
– After a regrouping, five riders choose to attack. Stijn Appel, Alex Huens, Vincent van Hemelen, again Liam Slock in Baptiste Planckaert drive in front. The lead increases to three minutes.
– At 62 kilometers from the finish, the front runners (and not much later the peloton) start the local lap in Schoten. In this local circuit, the 1,700 meter long passage over (otherwise very flat, well laid out) cobblestones is also a fact.
