Last June, Apple announced that it was working on a new version of CarPlay. It should appear in 2023. But what novelties can you really expect? We list them.

New appearance

A new version of Apple CarPlay also includes a new look. The platform for cars was first launched during iOS 7 and has barely changed in terms of interface.

During last year’s WWDC we already got a taste. It all looks tighter and more slick. Yet we also see a familiar element. The app overview remains. We do see a row of apps at the bottom, as you may know from the Mac. There will also be more space for widgets in the future.

Better integration with cars

A new look for CarPlay is of course nice, but what you are really waiting for is an even better collaboration with your car. Fortunately, Apple is also working on that. You will soon be able to control many more things with CarPlay.

Whether it’s climate, control or the radio, you can easily adjust it via CarPlay. We already see a small preview in the Apple Maps app in the electric Ford Mustang. The map service also indicates the battery percentage there, for example. The platform must also show the petrol and battery percentage in the new version. A feature that many people are waiting for.

Customize Apple CarPlay yourself

You will therefore see a lot more information via CarPlay. So much that you may not be waiting for everything right away. That is why you can adjust the information you see yourself. This way you choose which information you see on the screen. Handy, because that is of course the best way to drive. Apple has designed different layouts for this.

Release date

After reading all this, you are of course very curious when you can expect the new CarPlay. This is probably not until sometime in the autumn of 2023. That is also up to the car manufacturers. They determine when they roll out an update.
