This is what viewers can expect from the new show

The Kardashian-Jenner clan is making a show comeback. “The Kardashians” will be released on Disney+ in Germany on April 14th. New episodes appear on the streaming service every Thursday. After the end of the series “Keeping Up With The Kardashians”, which had been successful for more than 20 seasons, in 2021, the prominent family clan took on the new project. This distinguishes “The Kardashians” from its predecessor:

The end of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” came as a surprise to fans after 14 years. On the show, the reality stars later explained that they were against extending their contract with the broadcaster E! for personal reasons. Entertainment Television decided. Kourtney Kardashian (42), but also Kendall (26) and Kylie Jenner (24) had previously increasingly withdrawn from the show. Kim Kardashian (41) and mother Kris Jenner (66) agreed that they wanted to start a new chapter. The family therefore decided to take a break and make room for something new.

The break was shorter than some might have expected. Less than a year after the final episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians aired, the sequel The Kardashians airs. The associated, multi-year exclusive contract with the Disney streaming service Hulu was signed just three months after the announcement of the end of “KUWTK”. According to information from the US industry portal “Variety”, two seasons with a total of 40 episodes are currently planned for “The Kardashians”. In addition, the family will have the option of tackling other projects within the Disney Group in the future.

What is “The Kardashians” about?

Although the cameras were off for a while, Kim Kardashian and her sisters’ life hasn’t stood still since then. This is already evident in the opening episode of the new show. While the 41-year-old business woman’s much-commented appearance on “Saturday Night Live” is imminent, it is overshadowed by an old scandal. As in the first episode of “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” 15 years earlier, Kardashian’s sex tape with ex-boyfriend Ray J (41) plays a role again.

Because son Saint (6) accidentally discovered a clickbait article that allegedly promises previously unpublished scenes from the video. Kardashian then investigates the origin of the newly stirred up scandal. “I can’t believe this is happening right now,” says the prospective lawyer, stunned. Although she was visibly upset by the incident and even moved to tears, she later clarified: “For twenty years I was repeatedly accused of this mistake – but was it a mistake at all? He was my friend at the time. […] It’s embarrassing that it’s out there, but it’s not the most scandalous thing in the world. And I refuse to feel like it is.”

Kourtney Kardashian presents her love in an unusually open way

A lot has also happened in the lives of her sisters. Kylie Jenner is six months pregnant with her two-month-old son at the start of the season. However, she is still keeping the gender of the second child with Travis Scott (30) secret at this time. Because it is important to her to have things in her life that only take place between her and her boyfriend.

While Khloé Kardashian (37) emphasizes that she and the father of her daughter True (4), Tristan Thompson (31), are currently just friends, sister Kourtney starts the show with a new love. Her relationship with Travis Barker (46) is unusually open to the eldest of the Kardashian siblings from the start. While she kept her partnerships away from “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” after the relationship with Scott Disick (38) ended, she is now kissing and caressing on cloud nine. Kourtney openly raves that she has finally found her great love with the musician. In the course of the series, the couple will even be accompanied by cameras on their way to having children.

The only sister you barely see at the start of the new show is Kendall Jenner. She reports from the off that she was infected with Corona at the start of shooting. Still, she promises viewers that they’ll get enough of them as the show progresses.

Was unterscheidet “The Kardashians” von “Keeping Up With The Kardashians”?

When asked how it felt to be back in front of the camera, Kim Kardashian said: “It’s fun to start with a blank page. I feel like we had so much free time that we weren’t shooting , in which we’ve all retired to our own worlds and done our own thing.” She would like to show more of what really means something to her on the show, she later explains. So the aim of the series seems to be to give an even more authentic picture of the family.

The setting of the show shows from the start that “The Kardashians” marks the beginning of a new era for the Kardashian-Jenners. The episode begins with elaborately shot drone footage through and over the family members’ homes. The look of the new show is more expensive and cleaner, but you get a more intimate and authentic impression of the family. So the viewer feels like they’re sitting at the table when the camera zooms in on Kim Kardashian’s plate and she explains with a laugh that she’s actually vegan 90 percent of the time – while she’s opening two chicken wings.

Is this still a reality show or is it a sitcom?

At other moments, the reality show is reminiscent of a sitcom. Interview sequences of the individual family members repeatedly comment on current events in an ironic way. In one scene, Kris Jenner explains that Kendall “has the flu or something.” With a cut, she is interrupted by a good-humoured Kendall, who explains with a laugh: “I didn’t have the flu – I actually had Corona”. At times, the viewer almost feels like they’ve landed on an episode of “Modern Family” when, in another scene, Kris says that no one saw Kourtney and Travis’ relationship coming. Another hard cut follows Khloé and Kim Kardashian, who independently claim the relationship was everyone’s prophecy.

The new look and the mix of elements from the reality show genre and fiction give “The Kardashians” a breath of fresh air and make the format exciting and unique in its form. With the divorce drama between Kim Kardashian and Kanye West (44), which was later discussed, as well as her fresh relationship with comedian Pete Davidson (28) and other dramas within the family, the show promises to definitely be able to keep up with its predecessor in terms of content.
