The future Voies Lyonnaises, these cycle highways, are gradually unfolding as construction continues in several locations in the Lyon metropolitan area. In total, 250 kilometers of cycle paths are planned in the Lyon conurbation in 2026 and 355 kilometers of cycle paths in 2030 to encourage residents to engage in cycling.
Here’s what the future Voies Lyonnaises will look like, 12 in total, which are expected to accommodate 228,000 bicycles every day in 2030, according to estimates. Work on some sections has already begun and part of Line 1 on the banks of the Rhone in Lyon is already open.
Route Lyonnaise 1: from Vaulx-en-Velin to Saint-Fons
It will connect Vaulx-en-Velin to Saint-Fons via Lyon and Villeurbanne. Work on Line 1 began at the beginning of the year at Quai Claude Bernard in Lyon 7th. This section is already in service.
After the delivery of this first section, the works continue in the 6th arrondissement on the Quai de Serbia and on the Avenue de Grande Bretagne towards the entrance of the Parc de la Tête d’Or.
As of spring 2023, the existing track on the section between the Guillotière bridge and the Tête d’Or will be extended to measure 4 meters.
The 20.5 km route will start from the Mas du Taureau district and will serve the Doua campus, the left bank of the Rhone, Gerland and will end in the Vallée de la Chimie in Saint-Fons.
