This is what the dark color says

Every woman bleeds differently. Therefore the period can vary again and again. The consistency and color of the blood can also change during menstruation. Sometimes the period can be shorter or longer. It is therefore not surprising that such changes can frighten one or the other. The question quickly arises whether everything is okay with you or whether there is cause for concern – especially if the menstrual blood is brownish to almost black in color.

Black period: that’s why the blood is so dark

The longer it takes for the blood to clear the body, the darker it becomes as it reacts with oxygen. Towards the end of your period, when the blood flows more slowly, the blood will also turn brown again. Lumps of tissue from the lining of the uterus, which come off, especially at the beginning of your period, may also be dark red or almost black. It can also be blood that was not passed during the last bleeding. If your blood is particularly dark and thick, it could indicate high levels of estrogen. Due to the high levels of estrogen, the uterus builds up a thick lining that is shed during your period. Since dark menstrual blood can also be a sign of a fibroid, you should seek medical advice. Especially if your menstrual period is dark on a regular basis. Altered, unpleasant smelling discharge, vaginal itching and red-gray menstrual bleeding should also be taken seriously. Possible reasons are sexually transmitted diseases or bacterial infections. In these cases you should urgently consult your gynecologist.
